The Brief: A Digital Front Door for Traditional Finance
Displace Agency built a premium homepage for VyB Capital, a Chilean investment firm led by Juan de Dios Barros Vial and José María Vial Romero. The project used a forest growth metaphor throughout the visual design to represent long-term investment philosophy, with mobile-first development since the founding partners primarily demo the site on phones during in-person meetings.
The challenge was specific: build a homepage that communicates premium positioning without the cliches that plague financial services websites. No stock photos of handshakes. No generic skyline shots. No meaningless taglines about 'unlocking potential.' VyB wanted something that felt like them , rooted, deliberate, and quietly confident.
Financial services websites all look the same. VyB Capital needed something that broke the pattern without sacrificing the trust signals their clients expect.
The Forest Metaphor: Visual Language with Substance
The design breakthrough came from an unexpected direction. We developed a forest metaphor as the visual backbone of the entire site. Trees grow. Forests are ecosystems. Root systems connect what you see above ground to what sustains it below. The parallels to long-term investment strategy wrote themselves.
This was not decoration. The forest concept informed every design decision: color palette (deep greens and earth tones), typography choices (strong serifs that feel established rather than trendy), scroll animations that evoke organic growth, and imagery that carries the metaphor without being literal. The result is a site that feels distinct from every other financial services homepage on the internet.
We worked through three rounds of visual direction before landing on the right balance. Too literal, and it felt like a nature documentary. Too abstract, and the metaphor disappeared. The final version uses the forest as atmosphere rather than illustration.
Mobile-First for Bankers Who Demo on Phones
Here is something most agencies would miss: VyB's bankers do not present on laptops. They meet clients at restaurants, country clubs, and private events. When they want to show their firm's digital presence, they pull out a phone. This single insight reshaped the entire project.
We built mobile-first from day one. Not responsive-first where you design desktop and shrink it down. Genuinely mobile-first, where every interaction, every animation, and every piece of content was designed for a 6-inch screen held at arm's length during a conversation.
The mobile experience has larger touch targets, swipe-friendly sections, and content hierarchy optimized for quick scanning. A banker can hand their phone to a prospect, and the site tells the VyB Capital story in 30 seconds of scrolling. No pinching, no zooming, no awkward landscape rotation.
- Touch targets sized for one-handed use during conversations
- Content hierarchy designed for 30-second scan sessions
- Animations optimized for mobile GPU performance
- Swipe-friendly section navigation
- Full visual fidelity maintained at every breakpoint
Fintree Portal Integration
VyB Capital uses Fintree as their investor portal , the platform where clients log in to view portfolios, performance data, and account statements. Integrating the portal login into the public-facing website was non-negotiable. The site needed to serve as the single entry point for both prospects and existing clients.
We embedded the Fintree portal access directly into the navigation and built a dedicated login section that feels native to the site rather than a redirect to a third-party platform. The transition from marketing site to authenticated portal is seamless. Clients see VyB's branding throughout the entire journey, from first visit to portfolio review.
The technical challenge was maintaining the site's visual identity while handing off authentication to Fintree's infrastructure. We achieved this through custom styling of the portal entry point and careful attention to loading states so users never see a jarring white flash between systems.
Performance Under Scrutiny
Finance clients are particular. They notice when a page loads slowly. They notice when an animation stutters. They interpret these details, consciously or not, as signals about competence. A slow website for an investment firm is not just a UX problem; it is a trust problem.
We delivered sub-2-second load times with Lighthouse scores above 95 across all metrics. The forest animations use CSS transforms and will-change properties to stay on the GPU compositing layer, meaning smooth 60fps performance even on mid-range phones. Images are served in AVIF with responsive srcsets, and critical CSS is inlined for instant first paint.

What This Project Taught Us
VyB Capital reinforced a principle we already believed but had not tested this directly: understand how the client actually uses the website, not just who visits it. The mobile-first decision was not based on analytics data. It came from a conversation about how bankers work.
Financial services websites do not need to be boring to be trustworthy. The forest metaphor gave VyB a visual identity that no competitor can replicate. It is specific, it is ownable, and it tells a story about patience and long-term thinking that aligns perfectly with how they manage capital.
Sometimes the best design decisions come from understanding the client's world, not just their brief.
